What the day brings
Our only peach tree is down. It happened overnight. It was there, resilient, and in its own way resplendent, hanging on to life, but now it is on the ground.
It wasn’t a night of strong winds, but it snapped and its only green is the part lying on the ground. The tree’s life-force was countered by rot and in the end the rot won out.
I can see now how the inner wood was in full decay. The thin outer layer held the life and managed for these years to get to the leaves what they needed, but it wasn’t enough structure to offer the strength necessary to hold up the weight of the trunk.
I’ll see what the smaller limbs are like. They may hold enough sound wood to make a spoon or two.
In our backyard, the garden box bluebirds fledged a second brood. One of the young, just out of the box, was picked off by a young Cooper’s hawk. It flew right by Theresa with the bird dangling in its talons. I found the pile of pale feathers later, where it met its death. I understand how Cooper needs to eat, and how this one is one bird to the plus for surviving its first year, but it is tough to witness.
Precious are these days. Wait in line, Wait in traffic, Wait for the next season of your favorite show, Wait for supper, Wait for bed, But don't wait for Life. Life is here now. Be in it. Thrive. Love always. Forgive like there is no tomorrow. Make of yourself a daily offering. Live. Love and Peace, Glenn
